Third place overall.
Les Voiles de St. Barths has become an iconic Caribbean regatta in just three years. The location, the sailing, and the French hospitality are unparalleled, and we took it all in, in classic Powerplay fashion.
The racing was all long courses in and around the small islands surrounding St. Barths, four races in 4 days. Our chief competition were the world class 52s Mayhem and Vesper. We lead at the halfway point in the series, but going into the final race, only Mayhem or Powerplay could win the overall. Unfortunately it was not our day, as Mayhem went on to win the regatta on a tie breaker. The racing was close and very challenging.
We have had some close battles with Mayhem for the last 6 months, and they have become great friends as well as competitors. We even had their team over for Peter’s famous ‘Curry Night’. While we hate to lose to anyone, it was nice to see a world class team like Mayhem win one, well done Bob, Ashley and crew.
On the shoreside, two fantastic villas and an epic lay day party at the famed Niki Beach made this a regatta to remember for 2012.
